In the first instance, Khandagiri Police had raided a fake tobacco manufacturing unit under its limits last Friday and detained its owner with Rs 30 lakh. Raw materials, machinery and labels of branded companies used to manufacture the illicit tobacco were seized from the spot.
Based on the information provided by the detained person during police interrogation another raid was conducted near Nirgundi Railway Station under Tangi yesterday.
The joint raid conducted by the special squad of the Commissionerate Police and Tangi Police found around 70 bags of duplicate ‘pan masala’, five tobacco manufacturing machines, 2 packing machines from the spot and seized those.
At least two persons were taken into custody during the raid and efforts are underway to trace the main accused, said police.
In the most recent one, Jagatpur Police under the supervision of Cuttack Zone-I ACP Amarendra Panda raided a pan masala manufacturing unit in Jagatpur Industrial Estate area today and seized tobacco worth over Rs 10 lakh. Some chemical packs used in the tobacco production were also seized from the spot.
