Due to Covid-19 pandemic, the school fees in residential schools may be reduced by 30 per cent. The School and Mass Education department Secretary has reportedly submitted a report in Orissa High Court recommending a reduction of school fee in seven different slabs.
Slabs range from Nil waiver for those private schools having less than Rs 6,000 tuition fee per annum to 26% waiver for tuition fee Rs 1-lakh per annum.
As per the report of the joint committee of the State Government officials, school authorities and parents committee, there should not be any fee reduction in schools charging up to Rs 6,000 annually. A reduction of 7.5 per cent fee has been recommended for schools charging between Rs 6,000 and Rs 12,000 per annum.
Similarly, the committee has also recommended 15 per cent and 20 per cent fee slash in schools charging Rs 24,000 to Rs 48,000 and Rs 48,000 to Rs 72,000 per annum, respectively.
For those charging between Rs 72,000 and Rs 100,000, the committee has recommended 25 per cent reduction in the fee and 26 per cent fee reduction in schools charging more than Rs 100,000 per year.
Meanwhile, the Orissa High Court concluded its hearing in the matter and reserved its verdict.
