Balasore: The Odisha Government had claimed that only 62 people have died from Covid -19 in Balasore district till October 18, however reports from the crematorium designated for COVID-19 fatalities in Balasore suggests that cremation of 189 people have been performed as per the guidelines.
There has been allegations of mismatch of Covid-19 death data across the state. The reports from the Crematorium (Mukti Dwara) in Balasore suggests that the government has reported 127 fewer Covid-19 deaths in comparison to the data available at Odisha State Dash Board, portal that presents Covid-19 related information of the state.
According to the data accessed by argusnews.in, that contains the person’s name, address, contact details and hospital details suggests that at least 189 cremations of Covid-19 positives bodies have been performed in crematorium in Balasore.
The data exposes the Odisha Government’s tall claims of containing the pandemic.
“I have registered and cremated at least 189 Covid-19 positives bodies as per the Hindu traditions at the crematorium. I first cross check the documents and register the details in our register and cremate the body as per the guidelines,” said, Arun Kumar Kar Chief Servitor of Crematorium (Mukti Dwara) in Balasore.
Balasore district has reported around 9,423 positive cases, with 938 positive cases, 62 Covid-19 fatalities till October 18. There has been alleged discrepancies in the number of death cases reported by the Odisha government.
Even if there is a decline in positive cases in the state, but the Covid-19 death toll has surged to 1,152 on Monday with the death of 17 more patients due to the infection, as per government reports. With the surge in Covid-19 fatalities, question are being raised over the mismatch in death numbers.
