Throttled media:
A Russian radio station Ekho Moskvy (Echo of Moscow) has also been disbanded by its management board. This radio station was a liberal media outlet. Its coverage of war in Ukraine was not accepted by Russian authorities. Due to pressure from Russian government authorities, this radio station had to close down.
Natalia Sindeyeva, one of the founders of TV Rain led the mass resignation of its staff. She said ‘no to war’ while employees of the TV channel staged walk out from the live studio. TV Rain has come out with statement stating that it has suspended its broadcast indefinitely.
Media dare:
After that this TV channel preferred to play 'Swan Lake' ballet video in place of its regular news coverage. It was a symbolic mode of protest. Video of this ballet had been shown on state-run TV channels in Russia during the collapse of Soviet Union in 1991.
The throttled radio station in Russia had aired interviews of Ukrainian journalists, who described the shocking horrors of Russia's invasion. Editor-in-Chief of this radio station Alexei Venediktov had earlier declared that their independent editorial policies won't change.
