“The deep depression moved at a speed of 25 kmph during past six hours and, intensified further into Cyclonic Storm ‘JAWAD’ (Pronounces as JOWAD) and lay centered at 11.30 hours about 420 km south-southeast of Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 530 km south-southeast of Gopalpur (Odisha) and 650 km south-southwest of Paradip (Odisha),” raid the latest bulletin of the IMD.
The bulletin also informed that cyclone is likely to move northwestwards and reach west-central Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh – south Odisha coasts by tomorrow morning. Thereafter it is likely to recurve north-northeastwards and move along Odisha coast reaching near Puri around 5th December noon. Subsequently it is likely to continue to move north-northeastwards towards West Bengal coast.
Reports said Puri and Jagatsinghpur districts have started witnessing slight rains, while wind blow at 50 to 60 kmph has been recorded at Gopalpur. Red alerts have been issued for ports and fishermen have been asked not to venture into sea in view of hostile conditions. The State Government has started evacuation process.
