Bhubaneswar, June 7: On the occasion of LPG Day on June 7, Union Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel Dharmendra Pradhan has batted for smoke-free kitchens in India.
Pradhan today took to twitter route and said that LPG has played a catalytic role in improving human health, empowering women and ensuring better quality of life.
“On LPG Day, let us reaffirm our resolve to universalise the coverage of LPG and ensure smoke-free kitchens in India” Pradhan said in the social media platform.
LPG day is celebrated on June 7 across the globe starting from this year to raise global awareness about LPG and its beneficial impact on so many areas including health and clean air.
On May 1, 2016, Government of India has launched a social welfare scheme "Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana" (PMUY).
The scheme envisages of smoke free Rural India and aims to benefit five crore families especially the women living below poverty line (BPL) by providing concessional LPG connections to entire nation.
