"Took my first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at AIIMS," PM Modi said in a tweet.
"Remarkable how our doctors and scientists have worked in quick time to strengthen the global fight against COVID-19," the Prime Minister tweeted as he shared an image of himself taking the first dose of the vaccine.
PM Modi also appealed to all those who are eligible to take the vaccine.
"Together, let us make India COVID-19 free," he said.
Sources said, Sister P Niveda, from Puducherry, administered COVAXIN to PM Modi.
Notably, the nationwide COVID-19 Vaccination phase to cover senior citizens and people above 45 years with co-morbidities will start from today onwards.
The registration for vaccination will open at 9 AM this morning at www.cowin.gov.in. Citizens will be able to register and book and appointment for vaccination, anytime and anywhere, using the COWIN 2.0 portal or through other IT applications such as Arogya Setu.
The vaccine will be administered free of cost at ten thousand government hospitals to these groups while the cost of the vaccine at around 20 thousand private Vaccination Centres will be borne by the people.
