In a tweet in Odia, Pradhan said, “I am saddened over the demise of eminent academician Prof. Bhairavi Prasad Sahu. He has published several books and research papers on the ancient history of India.
“I express my condolences to the bereaved families. May the departed soul rest in peace,” he added.
Prof. Sahu, an eminent historian and much respected scholar of ancient and early medieval India, passed away on Thursday, following multiple ailments aggravated by post-Covid complications over the past several months.
Odisha-born Prof. Sahu had distinguished career in teaching since 1982 and as Professor in the Department of History of Delhi University in the National Capital since 1998.
Prof. Sahu authored and edited nearly ten books, including the recently published History of Precolonial India: Issues and Debates (with Hermann Kulke) (2018) and The Making of Regions in Indian History: Society, State and Identity in Premodern Odisha (2020). He also published over fifty articles in reputed journals.
