In his message, President Kovind said that Holi is a festival of social harmony which celebrates joy, delight and hope in the lives of people.
"Greetings to all fellow citizens on Holi. The festival of colours, Holi, is a festival of social harmony which brings about joy, delight and hope in the lives of people. May this festival further strengthen the spirit of nationalism which is integral to our cultural diversity," the President tweeted.
In a tweet, PM Modi wished that the festival infuses "new vigour and energy" in the lives of people.
"Wishing you all a very happy Holi. This festival of joy, happiness, laughter and glee should infuse new energy into everyone's life," PM Modi tweeted in Hindi.
Several Union Minister and other leaders also extended their wishes to everyone on the occasion of the festival colours.
Holi is being celebrated today throughout the country. Even though it is a predominantly Hindu festival, it is celebrated by people of other faiths as well.
The festival marks the arrival of the spring harvest season in the country.
Amid the surge in COVID-19 infections in the country, many State Governments and Union Territories have put in place a number of restrictions on the public celebration of the Holi festival this year.
