The Maharashtra Police has arrested Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami on Wednesday morning from his residence in Mumbai in connection with the death of interior designer Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik in Alibaug in 2018.
Naik was a 53 year old interior designer who died by suicide in May 2018. According to the information Arnab and 2 two others owed Rs 5.4 crore to Naik and refused to pay him during the construction of the Republic TV studio. Naik couldn’t handle the pressure and decided to take his own life by suicide. Learning about the incident Naik’s mother also took her life in grief-stricken.
Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in a tweet had said that a fresh probe was ordered after Naik’s daughter Adnya approached him regarding the case. “Adnya Naik had complained to me that Alibaug Police had not investigated non-payment of dues from Arnab Goswami’s Republic, which drove her entrepreneur father and grandmom to suicide in May 2018,” he tweeted. “I’ve ordered a CID re-investigation of the case.”
Arnab said from a vehicle that he and his family was assaulted by the police, his son was beaten and his in laws were pushed away and he is likely to be taken to Alibag in Raigad.
