The avalanche hit the Army post near the Line of Control (LoC) at Roshan Post in Tangdhar area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district late on Tuesday night, the officials said.
"Three soldiers were swept away by the avalanche. They were immediately rescued and shifted to a hospital where one of the injured identified as Rifleman Nikhil Kumar Sharma of army 7 Rashtriya Rifles was declared brought dead by the attending doctors,” an army official said.
“Two other soldiers - Ramesh Chand and Gurvinder Singh - are undergoing treatment,” he added.
Avalanches usually occur in the higher reaches of Kashmir after heavy snowfall causing human casualties and damages to property.
