These logs of have been procured from Nayagarh Forest Range, says report.
Notably, this is the fifth phase in which the logs have reached Puri taking the total number of logs received for chariot construction so far to 136.
As per the prevailing rituals at Srimandir, a total number of 865 logs are required for the construction of the chariots of Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra. With 69 logs hoarded from last year the requirement has fallen to only 796 this year.
The ‘Ratha Katha Anukula Puja’ or the initiation ceremony of the chariot construction was held in front of the Sri Jagannath Temple office on the occasion of holy Saraswati Puja this year on February 16. Three Dhaura logs were placed at the Chariot Yard (Ratha Khala) for worship as a part of this ritual.
The construction of chariot will start on the occasion of Akshaya Trutiya which falls on May 15 this year.
‘Ratha Katha Chirata’ ritual or slicing of the logs began at the Khapuria saw mill in Cuttack on the auspicious Ram Navami on April 21.
