Bhubaneswar, Feb 17: Tightening the noose on drug peddlers, the Excise sleuths seized around 185 gram of brown sugar from Palasuni area here in Odisha on Wednesday and arrested a woman drug paddler in this connection.
The arrested drug peddler has been identified as Pramila Pradhan (52). She is reportedly a close aide of noted drug smuggler Hadia, who allegedly operates brown sugar smuggling in Palasuni slum in the city.
Acting on a tip-off, the Excise sleuths conducted a raid at Hadia’s house in Palasuni early this morning and nabbed Pramila while she was trying to flee from the spot.
During search, the officials recovered around 185 gram of brown sugar, cash and a mobile phone from her possession.
However, Hadia managed to escape from the spot.
The market value of the narcotics recovered was assessed to be over Rs 18 lakh, an official said.
“We have arrested a woman from Palasuni and seized around 185 gram of brown sugar from her possession. Efforts are on to nab the main accused, Hadia. The arrested woman will be forwarded to the court later in the day. Further investigation is underway,” a senior Excise official said.
