Soro, Mar 29: Tension prevailed at Jhatiamala Chhak under Simulia Police Station last night after villagers detained two bike-borne bootleggers and seized country liquour in huge quantity from their possession.
As per the report, the accused duo was en-route to Simulia from Soro by carrying over 400 litres of country liquor on their bikes bearing registration numbers OD 01 J 5027 and OD 01 J 5576 in the wee hours today.
Some people who had gathered at the Jhatiamala Chhak to take part in the Dola Melana intercepted the accused duo on suspicion of illegal liquor trade and snatched away the consignment. Though a verbal duel erupted between the two sides over the issue, the bootleggers ran away from the spot leaving the bike subsequently.
Simulia Police rushed to the spot later in the morning and seized the bikes along with the liquor consignment.
