The deceased have been identified as driver PN Subramanyam and supervisor MK Muthuganjan. Both were residents of Tamil Nadu, police said adding that they had come to Odisha to transport fish.
The incident occurred in Anantraypur village under Sunapur police station limits in the district last night when the driver was reversing his truck and hit the transformer from rear end.
The helper of the vehicle who was helping the driver from the rear side of the vehicle reportedly suffered an electric shock and fell unconscious.
Soon, the driver and supervisor tried to get down from the vehicle but suffered an electric shock due to suspected short circuit while touching the door of the vehicle.
On being informed, local police and officials from electricity department rushed to the spot and rescued the trio with the help of the villagers.
The trio was rushed to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur where the doctors declared the driver and the supervisor as “brought dead.”
The helper was battling his life at the hospital, when the last reports came in.
Meanwhile, police registered a case and initiated a probe into the matter.
