The injured personnel have been identified as RPF Sup Inspectors Mukesh Kumar and Purnachandra Panda.
Based on a tip-off on several brick kilns located in Nalgonda area are using coals stolen from freight carries passing Bhadrak-Dhamra stretch of railway track, a team of RPF men carried out an inspection last night.
“During the inspection we came across a number of coal bags stolen from freight carriers at a brick kiln and inquired about its origin to a staff. But he called up around hundreds of his supporters who attacked us mercilessly,” said Purna Chandra Panda, one of the injured RPF personnel.
While Panda and his colleague Mukesh Kumar sustained serious injuries in the attack they were rushed to Tihidi CHC and then shifted to Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment.
The incident has sparked a concern among the railway officials in the area as the incident of coal theft from trains have gone up in the area in the recent times and they are trying to curb it.
