Berhampur, Mar 30: At least 25 houses were gutted causing a loss of properties worth lakhs in two separate fire mishaps under Sorada block of Ganjam district on Tuesday.
The first incident took place in Radhakrushnapur village under Sorada Police Station area in the morning while the villagers had been to the electric office to pay bills. Sparks erupted at a resident’s house and spread very fast to engulf 17 mores houses located in the neighbourhood.
“The incident took place at around 7 am in the morning while we had been to Sorada to pay electric bills. After getting a phone call from the village we reached the spot but by them everything had been gutted. I lost cash worth Rs 2 lakh, food grains and other valuable items to the blaze,” said Runu Swain, member of one of the victim family.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, an electric short circuit is being seen as the most possible reason behind the same.
