Based on a tip-off that Santosh was selling deer meat packed in polythene to customers, the Forest Department officials from Boudh raided his house in the morning.
Boudh, July 17: Unearthing yet another wildlife smuggling incident, Forest Department officials seized 25 kg venison by conducting a raid in Jharakhaman village under Puruna Cuttack area in Boudh district on Saturday.
At least one person was also taken into custody from the spot. He has been identified as Santosh Kumar Sahu, a resident of the same locality.
Based on a tip-off that Santosh was selling Sambar deer meat packed in polythene to customers, the Forest Department officials from Boudh raided his house in the morning.
During the raid, a total of 50 polythene packets containing venison were found to be seized.
Later, Santosh was taken into custody for quizzing.
Santosh, during his interrogation by the Forest Department officials post arrest has divulged that, he had collected the meat from a poacher.
A joint search by Forest officials and police has been launched to nab the absconding poachers.
