The four women (three deceased and one injured) were identified as residents of Mirialupada village under Ralegada gram panchayat under the block. They had gone to bring soil for mud coating of house walls ahead of Chaiti festival. A large mound of earth caved in on them while they were digging soil for the purpose, said reports.
Though they were rescued by villagers and rushed to the Pottangi hospital, three of them were declared dead there and the fourth one was undergoing treatment in a critical condition.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh to the family of each woman died in the incident and free treatment for the critically injured.
