As per the report, at least three Indian sloth bears were spotted roaming on the roads in a village located close to Barang Reserve Forest area at around 10 pm. Some locals who spotted the bears said, they even climbed atop a Shiv temple and started eating from a beehive present there.
Later, as the villagers started shouting out of fear the bears ran away into the forest, says report.
Locals have claimed that the bear incursion have become a regular affairs in villages located adjacent to Barang Reserve Forest areas in past few months. Sloth bears are being seen frequenting villages like Angarua, Tigiria, Bilabandha and Puruana Bandhagoda continuously in search of food.
In view of the bear incursion, Forest Department officials have cautioned people against venturing out of their homes after dusk. They have been advised to roam in a group of 2-3 in case of urgent works and that to by carrying lighting equipments.
