Nuapada, Dec 10: Police rescued as many as 30 bonded labourers including 10 women in Odisha’s Nuapada district on Thursday.
The labourers were allegedly being trafficked to Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh in a bus, named as “Janardan” bearing Regd No OD 08 M 0675.
Acting on a tip-off, Sinapali police intercepted the private-run bus near Hatibandha under Sinapali block in the district in the wee hours of today and rescued the victims.
Police also seized the bus and detained the staff of the vehicle.
The investigation revealed that the labourers are hailing from different villages under Sinapali block in the district. They were being trafficked on the pretext of providing employment at a brick kiln in Hyderabad, police sources said.
Efforts are on to send the labourers to their respective villages and nab those involved in the trafficking racket, sources added.
On December 2, as many as 74 bonded labourers, including 32 women and 13 children, were rescued from Kantabanji railway station in Balangir district of the State, while they were allegedly being trafficked to Vishakhapatnam.
