Bhadrak, Feb 16: At least four houses were gutted and properties worth lakhs were in a massive fire which broke out in Baulapokhari village under Bhadrak Rural Police Station area on Monday night.
As per the report, sparks erupted late in the night at one Madan Jena’s house when everybody in his family was asleep. Till they woke up launched firefighting efforts on their own the blaze had spread to three other houses in the neighbourhood.
Later, Fire Services personnel were called up for assistance and the flames were contained.
However, till then valuable items including furniture, electronic goods, food grains and groceries had been completely reduced to ashes.
“The incident took place at around 2.15 pm in the night. We immediately swung into action and tried to save the assets from fire but all went in vein. We appeal the district administration to provide us compensation for our losses,” said Madan Jena, the fire mishap victim.
While the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, it is being suspected that a snapped high voltage electric wire might have triggered the same.
