--Inordinate delay in completion of two bridges disrupts road communation in Malkangiri in rainy days.
Malkangiri, Jul 21: People of parts of Malkangiri district have been facing difficulties in moving to Malkangiri headquarter town and other destinations in view of inordinate delay in completion of construction to two high-level bridges on Balimela-Malkangiri Road.
According information, two high-level bridges, one at Korkunda and another at MV-37 are under construction for the last four years. The high-level bridges are being constructed to replace low-bridges at respective places.
Due to delay in construction, traffic movement between Balimela and Malkangiri get severely disrupted in rainy days as a small spell of rain submerges the existing low-level bridges. People pass through the bridges in precarious conditions, risking lives.
“Four years back, the State Government had started construction of three high-level bridges at MV 11, Korkunda and MV 37. While construction work at MV 11 has been completed, no remarkable progress has been achieved at two other places. We are facing difficulties in moving to district headquarter hospital and Government offices in Malkangiri. If the bridges are not constructed soon, we will take to the streets soon” said some locals.
Many of them alleged that unholy nexus between contractors and Government officers have made them suffer.
