Balangir, Jan 28: At least five cattle were killed and three men sustained severe injuries after a speeding dumper hit bullock carts near College Chhak in Patnagarh in Odisha’s Balangir district on Thursday.
The injured persons were rushed to Patnagarh hospital. After primary treatment, they were shifted to Balangir hospital as their condition was deteriorated.
As per reports, the mishap occurred when three men of Bhainsha village under Patnagarh police limits in the district were on their way to Dhublapada village in bullock carts to collect paddy straw this morning.
The speeding dumper hit the bullock carts, killing five cattle on the spot and injuring three persons and other cattle.
The locals rescued the injured persons in a critical condition and rushed them to the hospital.
Soon after the incident, the locals staged road blockade on Balangir-Patnagarh road protesting the rash driving by heavy vehicles in the area and demanded that police take steps to rein in the drivers.
The traffic movement was affected on Balangir-Patnagarh road as several vehicles were remain stranded both sides of the road.
Meanwhile, Patnagarh police started a probe into the road mishap.
