Koraput, Dec 12: Tightening the noose around the cannabis smugglers active in Odisha’s Koraput district, police seized around 750 kg of ganja from two separate places in the district last night.
As per reports, a police team intercepted a pickup van and a SUV near Changudipada Chhak under Lamtaput police limits in the district during night patrolling late last night.
The police, upon search, recovered around 500 kg of ganja packed in several gunny bags from two vehicles and seized. According to the police, the contraband was being transported to Andhra Pradesh.
However, all the four occupants of both the vehicles managed to give the cops a slip.
In another incident, Padua police seized around 250 kg of ganja from a mini truck near Hatibari village during patrolling last night.
However, the peddlers managed to escape from the spot during the raid. The vehicle was heading towards Andhra Pradesh without any registration number plates, police sours said.
The total estimated cost of the seized ganja will be over Rs 70 lakh, sources added.
