Berhampur, Jan 28: A seven-year-old girl sustained critical injuries after two youths allegedly slit her throat at Sorala village under Golanthara police limits in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Thursday.
The victim was rushed to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital here in a critical condition. After primary treatment, she was referred to the SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as her condition was deteriorated.
As per reports, the minor girl was attacked by two youths when she was playing near her house in the same locality.
Hearing her screams, the family members rescued the girl with the help of other villagers and rushed her to the hospital.
The villagers however managed to nab one of the accused persons and beat him black and blue.
On being informed, Golanthara police reached the spot and rescued the accused youth from the clutches of the angry villagers.
The accused, who sustained multiple injuries after being beaten by the villagers, was also admitted to a hospital.
Later, another accused involved in the crime was arrested by the police.
The exact reason behind the murderous attack to the minor girl is yet to be ascertained, police said.
“Our first priority is to ensure proper treatment to the injured girl, who has been shifted to Cuttack. We have detained both the accused. The reason behind the attack is yet to be ascertained. Investigation is underway,” a senior police official said.
