Name it and the government has a scheme for the people, however 80-year-old Damuni Madkami residing in Puruna Balimela Village at Korukonda block in Malkangiri district is forced to starve and is deprived of basic rights due to apathy of district administration. In spite acute poverty, an elderly man in the village has provided her shelter and food, but live a life of destitution.
“After the death of her husband Ghasi Madkami at Pedawada Village under Khairiput block in the district, subsequently she came to Puruna Balimela Village. Due to poverty she was depended on villagers for food. The administration has turned blind eye to her problems,” said Balram Padhi, a villager.
“I cannot see properly, and have failed to register for Aadhar Card following which I am deprived of government help and schemes. I had been to ‘Mo Sakar’ to seek help but in vain,” said a distressed Damuni Madkami.
However after learning about her, local administration has assured to conduct and inquiry and provide her necessary help as per the government guidelines.
“An administrative level inquiry will be conducted by officials to verify and help will provided soon. We will also send her to District Medical for her treatment,” said Korukonda BDO Ansuman Mohapatra.
