A joint team of Machkund Police and Border Security Force (BSF) personnel intercepted a pick-up van near Hanumal village in Odisha’s Koraput district and seized around 800 kg of ganja worth Rs 80 lakh from the vehicle on Wednesday.
Acting on the specific intelligence, the security personnel signalled the van bearing Regd No OR 10 D 4837, which was heading towards Chhattisgarh, to stop at a check post near Hanumal village.
Subsequently, the driver stopped the van. However, he and his accomplice fled from the spot leaving the vehicle there.
Later the security personnel searched the van and recovered 169 packets of ganja weighing around 800 kg, a country-made gun and two rounds of bullet from the vehicle, a senior police official said.
A case has been registered under NDPS Act 1985 at Machkund Police station in this connection. Further investigation is on, police added.
