Acting upon a tip-off on the illegal ganja farming and following an order from Gajapati SP Tapan Kumar Patnaik, a joint team of District Excise Department unit, Mohana Police, Forest and Revenue Department officials carried out separate raids in Buduni and Kadamali villages and torched the cannabis plants.
A case was also filed at the Mohana Police Station against unknown people for cultivating cannabis without the required permsission.
The destroyed cannabis will worth around Rs 17.28 crore, said police.
It has come to the notice that, despite Gajapati SP’s strong stand against the illegal cannabis growers in the district and continuous raids, the drug mafia seem to be unperturbed. They have found the hilly and forested tracts of the district to be safe haven for ganja farming.
