Berhampur, July 22: In a success to police in Ganjam, they busted a gang of dacoits and arrested nine of its members by carrying out a raid in Gosaninuagaon area on Thursday night.
As per the report, the Gosaniunagaon police got an anonymous phone call to 112 helpline number last night. The caller informed that a group of dacoits of Jharkhand origin were planning for their next loot near National Highway-16 under Khajuria.
After putting the gang on their radar, police traced the same under a bridge in Khajuria area and carried out a raid.
During the raid, at least nine members of the gang were taken into custody and arms and ammunitions including one country-made pistol, three live bullets, 3 country-made bombs and several sharp weapons were seized from their possession.
Police also seized 32 stolen mobile phones and an auto-rickshaw from the held gang members, the report adds.
The held Jharkhandi gang remained active in across the district in past couple of months. Pending loot cases against the gang members include, 4 in Baidyanathpur Police Station, 2 cases each in Gosaninuagaon, Badabazar and Hinjilicut Police Stations, informed police.
Further interrogation of held dacoits is underway.
