The department also stated that the patient, 71, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar and his condition is stable. The patient is diabetic.
The department further stated no other cases of black fungus have been reported elsewhere in the State.
The detected patient had tested positive for Covid-19 on April 20, 2021 and was under home isolation. After he complained of swelling in eyes and blackish discharge from nose, a nasal endoscopy was carried out on him. The endoscopy showed black deposits on his turbinate.
According to experts, some people recuperated from Covid 19 may get infected with black fungus. People suffering from black fungus experience redness in eyes, black nasal mucous and headache on all sides.
