Jajpur, Sep 23: BSc nursing students of the Utkal University new campus under the at Chandikhole on Thursday sat on a dhrana, protesting lack of hostel, clinical and laboratory facilities and illegal collection of fees from them.
The students under the aegis of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) alleged that their future will be severely affected if the university authorities don’t address their demands at the earliest.
“There is no hostel in the campus. We don’t’ have f faculty, clinical and laboratory. Our repeated requests have fall on authorities’ deaf ears only,” said Madhusmita Mallick, a BSc nursing student.
Stating that their nursing college is yet to be recognised, she said authorities recently collected Rs 8,000 illegally from them. “It is learnt that a trust, which is working as a middleman, has taken the money. While we have already paid Rs 75,000, extra collection of Rs 8,000 is illegal,” she said.
Another student, who sat on the dhrana, said politics has ruined the campus and pushed students’ future into dark.
“We will never relent from agitation unless our demands are met. We demand that adequate teachers appointed and clinical and laboratory facilities provided to us at the earliest. We also want that illegally collected fees returned to us,” said the student.
The students said they would intensify agitation if their demands aren’t met soon.
