Bhubaneswar, Dec 10: Agitating disengaged Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), who are on a fast-unto-death agitation for the last 15 days, conducted Manabasa Puja on the road at the Lower PMG area here on Thursday.
Notably, “Manabasa” is a Puja offered to Maa Laxmi by Hindu Odia women on each Thursday of the holy month of Margasira. Today is the second Gurubara (Thursday) of the current Margasira month.
“We have been on a fast-unto-death agitation here for the last 15 days to press for regularisation of our jobs in vacant ANM posts. We will continue our stir until our legitimate demands are not met. We conducted Manabasa Puja today and will do such pujas on roads in coming days if our demands remain unheard,” said a disgusted ANM.
According to ANMs, they worked efficiently and served Covid-19 patients at Covid Care Centres recently. But they were disengaged in three months after closure of the temporary Covid Care Centres.
“We have required education for ANM posts. We have also gathered experience in serving patients. The Government should consider our demand of regularisation at the earliest,” demanded another agitating ANM.
