“ECMO treatment is very likely to start by next week. One more ECMO machine will be installed at AIIMS very soon,” said Batmanabane.
The AIIMS Director along with many distinguished persons paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who had laid foundation stone for the Central medical facility, on July 15, 2003, on the occasion.
The ECMO facility will treat critical Covid patients and for other critical cases of different ICUs. AIIMS, Bhubaneswar presently has trained some faculty members for operation of the ECMO machines, and the institute is hiring more technicians to operate the same, which will help people, especially those referred to outside treatment, said an official.
The premier healthcare institute celebrated its foundation day in virtual mode. Dr. Renu Swarup, Secretary, Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Among others, Medical Superintendent Prof. (Dr) Sachidananda Mohanty was present.
