Koraput, April 5: After conducting the first phase of Panchayat polls in Kotia area of Odisha’s Koarput district in February this year, Andhra Pradesh Government has issued a fresh notification to hold elections for Mandal and Zilla Parishad constituencies in the same territories of Odisha.
The State election commission of Andhra Pradesh has issued a formal notification on April 1 in this regard.
According to the notification, polling is scheduled to be held for Talaganjeipadar and Patachenuru villages in Kotia area on April 8 and counting of votes will be held on April 10.
G T W A High School has been identified as the polling booth for Patachenuru Gram Panchayat while ITDA new building has been selected as polling centre for Ganjeibhadra Gram Panchayat.
Notably, Andhra Pradesh had conducted the first phase of elections on February 13 trespassing into the Odisha territory despite Koraput (in Odisha) district collector Abdaal Akhtar had written a letter to his Vizianagaram (in Andhra Pradesh) counterpart Dr M Hari Jawaharlal requesting the latter not to conduct the gram panchayat election in Kotia.
Odisha Government had filed a contempt petition in the Supreme Court.
The Odisha government, in its petition filed before the Apex Court, submitted that Andhra Pradesh had allegedly willfully and deliberately violated the Supreme Court order of December 2, 1968, and the judgement of March 30, 2006, by transgressing into Odisha's territory.
