Koraput, Feb 13: Despite Koraput District Collector wrote to his Vizianagaram counterpart on not to conduct the Gram Panchayat elections in Kotia under Pottangi block, the neighbouring State Andhra Pradesh went on to hold polls in the area on Saturday.
As per reports, voting in Kotia has reportedly begun at 7 AM and it will continue till 3 PM today.
The polling for three villages - Tal Ganjeipadar, Phatu Chineri and Phaguna Chineri- of Kotia panchayat is being conducted at an under construction Church amid tight security.
However, the Koraput district administration officials are yet to reach the site.
On Friday, the Supreme Court issued notice to Andhra Pradesh government over the plea filed by Odisha government on the Kotia panchayat and sought initiation of contempt of court proceedings against Andhra Pradesh for violation of status quo agreed upon by the two states more than 50 years ago.
