Cuttack, Feb 23: The twin-city Commissionerate Police busted a fake cement manufacturing unit at Jagatpur area of Cuttack city in Odisha on Tuesday.
Acting on a tip off, the Jagatpur Police conducted raids at the manufacturing unit and seized huge quantity of spurious cement packets with labels of different reputed brands on them.
Police also seized a truck, empty packets, machinery equipment etc from the spot.
However, the owner of the manufacturing unit, identified as Sanjay Bhol of Buxi Bazar in Cuutack, is absconding, police said.
Speaking to media persons, Cuttck zone-1 ACP Amarendra Panda said that Bhol has taken the house on rent from one Sukanta Rout five year back and has been operating a fake cement manufacturing init in the building.
The accused used to mix genuine cement with some amount of damaged cement and later sell the mixture cement in the name of various reputed cement brands, said the senior police officer.
“Efforts have been initiated to nab the owner of the manufacturing unit and further investigation is underway, Panda added.
On his part, the owner of the building, Sukant Rout, said, “I had given the space on rent to Sanjay Bhol after an agreement. I have no idea about their business. I got a call from police and reached the spot. I will extend my cooperation to the police.”
This is the second fake cement manufacturing unit to be busted in the city in the span of last two months.
