In the sensational Bhimatangi murder case, the Commissionerate police on Wednesday revealed that accused Jagannath Pradhan killed Priyanka after his urge for immediate marrying and eloping was rejected by her.
Bhubaneswar, Jul 21: In the sensational Bhimatangi murder case, the Commissionerate police on Wednesday revealed that accused Jagannath Pradhan killed Priyanka after his urge for immediate marrying and eloping was rejected by her.
Addressing a Press meet, Bhubaneswar DCP Umashankar said Pradhan confessed to the crime during interrogation done after he was discharged from the hospital.
“On the day of incident, Jagannath had brought two knives, a vermillion box and some chocolates. He entered the house at around 9 am after her husband went to office. The then forced Priyanka to marry him and move with him to his place for ever. During this time, a member of house owner family came with some food items. Jagannath soon hid in the bathroom. The man took Priyank’s little son with him to the downstairs. Thereafter, Jagannath came and reiterated his demand. Priyanka didn’t accept it. This led to an argument between them. Then, Jagannath slit her neck with a knife. Subsequently, he slit her own wrist and consumed poison as an attempt to end his own life,” said Dash.
Before committing the crime, Jagannath had made a video call to Priyanka’s husband Rakesh Sahoo. On being informed by Rakesh, police went to the spot, rescued the accused and sent him to the Capital Hospital. Subsequently, he was shifted to AIIMS, said the DCP.
Jagannath had written the suicidal note three-four days before he killed Priyanka, said the cop.
Rakesh and Priyanka along with their three-year-old son were staying in a rented house in Bhimatangi Housing Board Colony in the city.
