The deceased has been identified as Madhusmita Das, a resident of Sailashree Vihar of Chandrasekharpur area in the city.
The minor girl was admitted to a private-run hospital in Patia with very high fever. Her tests returned positive for dengue. She succumbed to the vector-borne disease late last night while undergoing treatment at the hospital.
This year, the city has reported 276 dengue cases till July 25. Most of the dengue cases have been reported from Chandrasekharpur, Unit-VIII and Kalpana Square area in the city.
Though it is not an alarming situation for the city, but Das’ death has created fear among the residents of State Capital.
Meanwhile, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) began a massive drive to destroy mosquito breeding sites in the affected localities.
