The agents have swindled Rs 200 from each farmer’s account by assuring them to provide Rs 3 lakh insurance coverage.
What is quite interesting is that the agents have provided the farmers false insurance certificates which the government says invalid.
The Chhendipada scam comes after the Gurudijhatia scam. In Gurudijhatia the agents had exactly fleeced money from the farmers in similar fashion.
The shocking part of the story is that the agents operated from panchayat offices, giving an impression that it was a government scheme. Instead of giving receipts to the farmers, they told him that their names were registered through phone.
The farmers were provided Kishan Samrudhi Card by on Indian Agripreneurs.
“We are assured Rs 3 lakh insurance coverage against crop loss. Now, we find we have been cheated. We want strong action against the panchayat officials who cheated us,” the farmers said.
Chhendipada agriculture extension officer said he would probe the allegation and take actions against the culprits.
