“Driving licence will be suspended if both the rider and person sitting don’t wear helmets. Please wear helmets for your safety,” tweeted the STA.
According to information, the STA has reinitiated steps for the strict enforcement of the guidelines of the new MV Act in Odisha.
Earlier, it had made helmet wearing compulsory for pillion riders from March 1, 2020. It had also stated then that strong action would be taken against violators for not wearing helmets while travelling on the two-wheelers.
Execution of the new MV Act guidelines were temporarily suspended in view of lockdowns and shutdowns imposed to check spread of Covid-19 in the State. With situation returning to normalcy now, the STA has decided to reinforce the new guidelines, said a Transport Department official.
During the last 10 days, the RTO, Bhubaneswar has suspended 97 DLs of motorcycle riders for not wearing helmets in the city, said the official.
