Sundargarh, Jan 4: 51-year-old Birju Kulu of Katang village under Kutra block in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, who had recently returned to his native place after spending 20 years in a jail in Pakistan, went missing from his house.
His sister Tedrace Kulu said that Birju went missing since Saturday night and a missing complaint was lodged at Kutra police station in the district on Sunday.
Police have initiated a search operation to trace him.
Birju got sentenced for 20 years by a Pakistani court on charges of spying. He had left home when he was 25 and had crossed the Pakistan border by mistake. He was said to be mentally unstable and was then working in a hotel in Ranchi.
Birju was released from the Lahore jail on October 26, 2020, and was subsequently handed over to Indian authorities at the Wagah border.
Accompanied by senior government officials, Birju had reached his village to a rousing welcome by the fellow villagers on November 13, 2020.
