The arrested BJD leader has been identified as Jhuni Patra, a resident of Dolipur under Jajpur Road model police station in the district.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of Flying squad officers of the State Excise Department conducted raid at Dolipur area and seized the narcotic drugs weighing around 30 gram and other incriminating materials from the possession of the accused BJD leader.
The seized contraband item will be valued at around Rs 3 lakh in the market, police sources said.
Significantly, Jhuni Patra, who was arrested on charge of peddling the narcotic substance, admitted that she is the BJD leader from Word No-19 of the town. Patra also claimed that she is the president of a local unit of the ruling party.
A case has been registered against Patra under various sections of IPC and NDPS Act, 1985. Official sources said that the accused BJD leader has a Balasore-link in the illegal trade.
Meanwhile, a photo of the accused drug peddler Jhuni Patra with a top BJD leader of the State went viral on social media.
