The ruling has retained the three municipal corporations—Cuttack, Bhubaneswar and Berhampur. BJD candidate Sangamitra Dalei has won the Mayor seat by a margin of 20,236 votes. She has registered the victory by defeating the nearest BJP rival Sabita Suar.
Moreover, the conch party has grabbed the Mayor posts in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. While Sulachona Das has won the coveted seat in Bhubaneswar, Subash Singh has defeated Congress’ Giribala Behera and grabbed the post in the silver city.
As per the latest trend, of the 105 NAC/ Municipality chairpersons seats, the ruling BJD has won 73 seats, while Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress managed to get 16 and seven posts, respectively.
Besides, nine Independent candidates have registered victory in the Urban Local Body (ULB) polls.
Thanking the people for re-imposing faith in his party, BJD President Naveen Patnaik, in a tweet, said, "Thank all the people of Odisha for the overwhelming support in #OdishaMunicipalElection. The win is a reflection of the outpouring of love for @bjd_odisha and the untiring effort of thousands of party workers."
He also congratulated all winning BJD candidates and appreciated the hard work of party workers.
