Paralakhemundi, Feb 12: BJP State president Samir Mohanty on Friday alleged large-scale irregularities and mismanagement in paddy procurement and public distribution system (PDS) in Gajapati district and urged the State Government to resolve the issues at the earliest.
“Forty percent paddy is yet to be procured in Gajapati district. Token has been issued but paddy has not been procured from farmers. Government officials have aligned with the millers not to procure paddy and force the farmers to go for distress sale,” alleged Mohanty, who along with other senior leaders visited the district to take stock of the border issues with the Andhra Pradesh.
He too alleged that PDS rice is not being distributed to beneficiaries and is being recycled by officials and distributors.
“The district Collector has assured the Leader of Opposition that 100% paddy will be procured from farmers within 10 days. If he fails to do so, the BJP will take to streets with farmers,” threatened Mohanty.
