BJP MLA Suraj on Thursday targeted BJD spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Sasmit Patra after the latter adamantly tweeted, “What Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik says, he does.”
BJD MP Patra’s tweet came after senior BJP leader and Union Education and Skill Development Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday, while addressing an election meeting, sought to know whether Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will hold a Cabinet meeting, approve new district status to bypoll-bound Padmapur and show it to the people during his visit on Friday.
Responding to Union Minister Pradhan’s appeal to the Chief Minister, the BJD MP came to rescue his party president and tweeted,” People of Odisha over past 22 years have seen & believe that what CM Naveen Patnaik says, he does. Therefore, 4.5 crore Odias have blessed him for the past 22 years.”
Meanwhile, BJP MLA Suraj hit back MP Sasmit Patra and launched an all-out attack on ruling BJD. He reminded BJD MP of Naveen government’s false promise of granting district status to Padampur as Minister of Revenue and Disaster Management Pramila Mallick on Thursday said in the Assembly that the State government has no proposal to create a new district.
The saffron leader also said that the BJD government has betrayed the farmers in the name of KALIA scheme. “The State government had announced to pay Rs 10,000 annually to each farmer under KALIA scheme, but it has been paying only Rs 4,000 to selected few farmers,” Suraj said.
The Dhamnagar MLA also slammed the State government as it failed to pay the bonus the farmers.
“In 2016, the Chief Minister had announced in Sohela that apart from the Central grant, the State government will pay a bonus of Rs 100 on every quintal of paddy. However, not a single farmer of the State has received the bonus yet,” Suraj pointed out.
The Dhamnagar MLA appealed the voters of Padampur constituency to vote for the BJP candidate for the all-round development of the region.
The voting for the Padampur by-poll will be held on December 5 and the counting of votes will take place on December 8.
As many as 10 candidates including BJP’s Pradeep Purohit, BJD's Barsha Singh Bariha and Congress nominee Satyabusan Sahu are in the fray for the by-poll.
The by-poll has been necessitated due to the death of sitting MLA Bijaya Ranjan Singh Bariha on October 3.
