Samalpur, Feb 13: The State unit of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday observed ‘Chhaka Jam’ for three hours in western Odishha, protesting irregularities in mandis and procurement of paddy in the region.
The saffron party held Chhaka Jaam at all the National Highways and State Highways passing through the five Lok Sabha and 37 Assembly constituencies in Western Odisha.
As per reports, the obstruction of vehicular movement in 10 districts of the State began at 10 AM and will continue till 1 PM today.
The BJP workers were seen picketing at major places including all the district headquarters town in western Odisha.
Hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on both sides of roads passing through the region due to the protest.
Earlier on January 21, BJP had gheroed the office of the Revenue Commissioner (Sambalpur Division) and demanded the paddy of the local farmers be procured from the respective mandis by February 7
The saffron party also demanded action against government officials, PACS functionaries and rice millers for undue delay in procurement of paddy.
