The accused person has been booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act.
Bhadrak, Jul 20: A team of Central Excise intelligence wing of Cuttack on Tuesday seized 175 gram of brown sugar worth around Rs 17.5 lakh in Guamal under Tihidi block in Odisha’s Bhadrak district and arrested a drug peddler in this connection.
The accused person has been identified as Tapan Kumar Behera.
Acting on a specific tip off, the Excise officials intercepted the accused person near a temple in Guamal while he was allegedly trafficking the contraband in a motorcycle.
During search, the Excise officials recovered 175 gram of brown sugar from Behera’s possession. Soon, the officials arrested him and seized the brown sugar and the two-wheeler.
“The accused person has been booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway,” said an Excise official.
