Balasore, May 1: Continuing with its crackdown on illegal drug traders, the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch seized over 1 kg brown sugar by conducting a raid in Sahadevkhunta area in Balasore and arrested two persons.
The held peddler duo has been identified as Manas Mukhi of Aradabazar and Kamalakanta Das of Haripur villages of the same district.
Acting upon a tip-off on the drug deal which was scheduled to take place at a secluded spot, the STF team raided the same and detained the peddlers. After brown sugar weighing around 1.36 kg was found from them during search for which they failed to produce any permit, officials made the arrests.
Manas and Kamalakanta have been charged under the relevant sections of NDPS Act post their arrest.
The market value of the seized brown sugar will be around Rs 1 cr, said the officials.
Notably, the STF had seized 1.50 kg brown sugar from a car on Khordha-Barunei road on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar in a similar fashion last Friday and taken five persons into custody.
