Khordha, Dec 10: In a success to Khordha Police against drug traffickers, it has seized brown sugar weighing around 264 grams by carrying out a raid in Samantarapur village and taken three persons into custody on Thursday.
The held peddlers have been identified as Sushant Majhi of Hatabastar of Rajsunakhala in Nayagarh district, Sarathi Nayak of Mathurpur village under the same area and Srikant Paramguru of Swampenswar Sahi in Khordha.
During the raid police also seized, a KTM motorcycle, Rs 41,000 in cash, 2 mobile phones, 909 pieces of polythene packets used in packing brown sugar, 20 rubber bands and a weighing machine.
The seized brown sugar will worth over Rs 26 lakh in the market, said police.
“All the accused arrested today are veteran criminals. They were selling brown sugar after bringing those from Jaleswar area of Balasore for past few months and were under police’s radar for the same. Sushant has 5 major criminal cases pending against him under Sections 307,395 and 396 of IPC,” said Khordha SP Ajay Pratap Swain.
“Charges under the relevant sections of NDPS Act have been slapped against the held accused and they will be taken on remand soon to extract more information on the drug racket,” the SP added.
